Fixed a regression where spies could be identified on the radar.
The web infrastructure has been ported to a new faster site: openra.net

It's been a few months since the Beta Revision 1 release of Mental Omega: Almost Perfect Yuri's Revenge 3.0 and even longer since the last news post was written on our website. Of course I write something on my Twitter page every few days and post various updates on the ModDB& Facebook profiles, but not all of our fans follow us there. Besides, it's high time to make some regular updates, so you can expect these news reports to pop up more often.

We have a shiny new & recommended link - http://mentalomega.com - with Chinese and Polish versions of the website to follow. There is also a changelog for upcoming Beta Revision 2, which will be finalized with the release of the patch. What will it include? Bugfixes, new maps, new modes and objects just to name a few features. Read the changelog for the full list.

For more information, visit the Mental Omega website. Stay tuned!

D-day wiki

It's June 6th, D-day!

This year marks the 70th anniversary of operation Overlord the Allied landings in Normandy. As I write this there are events happening all around the world to commemorate this world changing battle. Celebrations starting early this morning at Pegasus Bridge where the first allied troops silently landed in gliders and captured the vital bridge in minutes. Later in the morning British paratroopers dropped from the skies, among them was an 89 year old veteran who jumped into battle for the first time 70 years ago. Not to be out done the Royal Marines reenacted the amphibious landings with a flotilla of ships sailing from Portsmouth to Arromanches. With them was also several veterans, one of which celebrates his 100 birthday next month.

Of course today is also the 12th year that the D-day mod for Red Alert 2 has been in development and the 2nd year since its public release. Unfortunately unlike the previous years I don't have a new version of D-day ready for release. Instead to commemorate this anniversary I have created a wiki for D-day's vast collection of units.

The D-day Wiki currently has over 650 articles with 1,500 images. It's been quite a mammoth task to put it all together over the past few months, however I'm still far from finished. I'll be continuing to update it with background histories on each of the units along with photos and diagrams of the real vehicles. I hope you will enjoy looking though the wiki as much as I have making it.

C&C Online: The Replacement for GameSpy!

$
0
0
Ladies and gentlemen, as you know, the official online multiplayer support for Command & Conquer Generals, Zero Hour, Tiberium Wars, Kane's Wrath and Red Alert 3 provided by GameSpy will end by June 30th. We've got together with the guys from Revora, GameReplays and other C&C community sites to solve this problem for once for all.

The service is called C&C Online and it should emulate GameSpy in the same server that host this site and many others. Here's the official announcement:

Quote:

Hello everyone! We are proud to present to you C&C:Online, the community-driven GameSpy replacement!
Below you will find all the information we currently have to share.

WHAT IS C&C:ONLINE?

C&C:Online is a GameSpy emulating server for modern Command & Conquer, created and hosted by Revora.

It's based on our T3A:Online project for BFME, adapted to work for all the Command & Conquer games affected by the GameSpy closure (Generals, Zero Hour, C&C 3, Kane's Wrath, Red Alert 3).

GameReplays.org will be working with Revora in managing, developing and promoting the new online service.

C&C:Online lets you use the game's native online interface, exactly like you are used to now (no LAN). It works by using a simple launcher that redirects traffic to our server. In order to participate in the new service, you will need to download the C&C:Online launcher for your game(s), and create an account at Revora. Your Revora account name is then synchronised to be your new "EA" account name. Don't worry, you will still be able to choose different nicknames.

While we cannot realistically expect everybody that is currently using the official online service to move to C&C:Online with us, we hope that our service can convince a sizeable number of users. We have every reason to look forward to a bright future for our games and communities.

C&C:Online is supported by:

WHEN WILL IT BE RELEASED?

Very soon. Make sure to keep an eye on the C&C:Online Facebook page.
Once it is released, we will post links to the new C&C:Online website, from which you will be able to download the C&C:Online clients, as well as find installation instructions and links to support and community forums at Revora.

HOW MUCH IS DONE?

We are confident that we can release C&C:Online for all five affected C&C titles (Generals, Zero Hour, C&C 3, Kane's Wrath, and Red Alert 3) simultaneously, in time for the GameSpy shutdown.

The first release will contain the following features for all titles:

- Playing games
- Hosting and joining games
- Chat functions
- Buddy systems

The server is still under heavy development at the moment in order to make it by June 30th. The basics (login, chat, buddy system) for all games are working, but the listing of Generals and Zero Hour games in the lobby is still somewhat problematic. We're doing our best not to let you guys down!

WHAT WILL BE DONE LATER?

After the initial release, we will continue development to add more features.
We will be working on:

- Statistics
- Ranking
- Automatch systems

Together with GameReplays we are looking into a method to verify users that want to keep their old nicknames (to prevent impersonation), and to link these to existing statistics and rankings.

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP?

We need this news to be spread as far across the global C&C community as possible, so help us spread the word!

We could also really use some donations! Revora is a non-profit association, and so all proceeds go towards server costs and improving our infrastructure.

In the same vein, if you happen to own a VPS hosting company and have a spare server, we would really appreciate the support. We will host C&C:Online on Revora's dedicated server for now, but with so many players this is probably not a viable long-term solution.

As soon as this project goes live, we will provide additional support for it here, information about it and more. Revora already supports other GameSpy multiplayer games such as Battle for Middle Earth 1 and 2 at T3A:Online, an initiative that PPM also supports.

C&C Executable Modifier

$

The C&C Executable Modifier is a tool that offers an easy to use interface to apply the various exe changes/hacks that have been found over time.
It shows in a list the available hacks and marks those which are already applied to the exe and which aren't.

The list of hacks is stored in a very easy editable hacks.ini. If you find more exe hacks, feel free to edit the ini and upload it here, so others can use them too.
Right now the ini only lists TS hacks, but the tool can be also used to modify any other exe.

The current version at the moment that this post became a news post is 01.00.00.02.

Head to this topic to download the latest version of the program and provide feedback.

Installation: simply copy it into an empty folder of your choice. Then start the exe.

-green: hack is applied
-white: original exe value is used
-yellow: unknown exe value not matching the original nor the modified value (It is likely to be incompatible with the current exe and thus can break it if any modification is done)

-right click on an item and choose whether you want to apply the original values or the modified ones

Version 01.00.00.02 Changes
-Multiple hacks can be selected and applied at once (Shift/Ctrl + Mouse-click to select them)
-hacks.ini has new key "Type" to assign hacks to certain games, and allow filtering for certain hacks
-File menu with option to load ini
-[Edit ini] option added to menu, which opens the currently used hacks.ini in Notepad
-many more TS hacks included in hacks.ini (Thanks to Bittah Commander)
-?? joker in Modified string shows dynamic input window to set the value
-"InputText" key added, which gives an Offset/Original/Modified block a description for the Input window if ?? joker is used
-"HackDescription" key added which allows each Offset/Original/Modified block to show a description in the "List of Changes"

Note: This is the first version and therefore it can contain bugs. So make sure you backup your game executable before you apply changes to it with this tool!

Warning: It changes the exe which can lead to unexpected sideeffects.
The list of hacks is not failsafe and not all hacks have been verified to be working 100% fine.
So use this tool on your own risk!

The Dawn of the Tiberium Age 1.1282 update released!

Comrades, rejoice! The latest update for DTA includes a completely new Soviet Campaign with 8 varied and unique missions!

Previously unseen enemies have quietly launched an attack against an isolated Soviet colony some time after the Soviet Union's defeat against the Allies and the forming of the Global Defence Initiative. Are you able to investigate and eliminate the enemy using the scarce resources of the scattered Soviet Union?

Alongside the new campaign, our update also contains a large amount of bug fixes and gameplay improvements. To name a few, most AI structures are capturable again, your long-range units (like V2 Rocket Launchers and Artillery) are less enthusiastic about automatically chasing enemy units, and naval yards are now able to repair ships.

If you're a mapper, we also have some nice additions to your toolbox. Mappers are now able to add pre-placed player-owned units and structures on multiplayer maps, it is possible to place destroyable low bridges (the indestructable bridges are still there though) and we've added a new resource missed by many Red Alert fans: gems.

As usual, to read the full change log, please visit our change log page. I highly recommend that you have both the Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert music packs installed when playing the campaign - they really improve the experience! With this update we've also added some tracks to the music components which we previously missed, so once you're done downloading the update, please visit the Options dialog where you can update the music components (for most of you, the Client should prompt you to do so anyway).

We hope you enjoy clearing the missions (assuming you can beat them Wink ) as much as we've enjoyed creating them. They scale quite well with the difficulty slider, so the campaign should be enjoyable for less experienced players (on Easy) while providing challenges to the most hardcore C&C fans (on Hard). Any feedback about the campaign is appreciated - please leave your comments to our ModDB page or to our forums here at Project Perfect Mod.

Quick notes on our latest news.

Hello everyone! The latest news in this month were awesome, as you may have seen: an online gaming replacement for GameSpy for Generals, Zero Hour, TiberiumWars, Kane's Wrath and Red Alert 3; a tool that makes the task of modifying your game executables become a piece of cake and the new patch for The Dawn of Tiberium Age with a new soviet campaign.

We have addendum for all of them:

- C&C Online:Reserve your old TW, KW and RA3 nicknames at C&C: Online.

In order to use the same nickname you used online on GameSpy for C&C3, Kane's Wrath and Red Alert 3 (Note that Generals and Zero Hour are out of this list), you'll need to claim your nickname, connecting it to your Revora Account.

In order to do that, if you don't have a Revora account, create one. Once you have it, go to the Fair Play and Member Management and create a new topic there with your nickname and its profile on Shatabrick.com. You can easily find your profile there by browsing the game you want and searching for your nickname. For further clarifications, click here.

Remember this is only for C&C3, Kane's Wrath and Red Alert 3. This is not for Generals and Zero Hour.

The server is expected to go online on June 30th, at the same day GameSpy will go down. According to Toxic Shock, webmaster of Shatabrick, the game data from GameSpy has already been stored at Shatabrick, which shouldn't prevent you from claiming your nickname in july, if somebody doesn't claim it first.

- C&C Executable Modifier: New Version 01.00.00.03 has been released!

The new version includes more hacks (even to FinalSun) and also the following changes:

-Program icon added
-Input window shows RGB Color Picker, for hacks that include the key "UseColorPicker=yes" (latest hacks.ini updated with this key)
-when Original and Modified had the same value it was showing the hack in green like Modified, not Original
-Input window allows to choose between decimal and hexadecimal values
-hacks.finalsun.ini included which has hacks for the map editor FinalSun

- The Dawn of the Tiberium Age:

A bug fix patch should be released in the next hours to fix bugs such as invisible naval shipyards, as reported here, in our forums. Stay tuned at the The Dawn of the Tiberium Age ModDB profile or at the auto update tool for more information and the patch.

The Dawn of the Tiberium Age v1.1290

It's been just 2 over days since the last update, but here's another one and we ended up coming up with more improvements in this short time than expected.

First of all, there have been a few bug fixes: The AI's naval yards were all invisible, the Missile Sub did less damage against ships after becoming elite, while doing way too much damage against structures and unanimated water used the wrong colors in FinalSun.

Arctic Circle has been added; a new multiplayer map by ChronoSeth.

The YAK had its hitpoints reduced, while the MIG had its hitpoitns increased to improve the game balance a bit and the Sea Shadow's missile's explosion has been changed because the nuke mushroom clouds became a bit too excessive used.

Snow versions of ore, gems and smudges have been added.

Map makers are able to enable these for their maps via newly added tool scripts in FinalSun.

Thanks to a hack from Iran, neutral units are now automatically targeted by your units and the AI's (so you'll no longer stupidly see an AI base being destroyed by a visceroid, without the AI doing anything about it).
Although this is just a seemingly small thing, it adds the potential for creating co-op missions against a neutral house, especially since the previous update made it possible to place player-owned units on maps and also create player-specific "change house" and reinforcement triggers.

And last, but not least, you will now only see other DTA players when you log onto CnCNet.
It used to be impossible to tell whether any DTA players were online, unless any games were hosted. Since not everyone bothers to host a game when they come online, this likely reduced the online player count a bit.
Since all irrelevant users are now filtered out, finding other DTA players will be a lot easier, so hopefully this will help the online activity to pick up a little.

June Updates - Colony Wars

As June ends Colony Wars comes with more new updates. Along these is the New Logo. With big thanks to tomson. Without further ado let's get started...

Introducing one of the new Units for the Syndicate, The Zombie

The Zombie are weaker versions of the Brute. Lacking its speed and readily availability from the Barracks. However as their movie caricatures named after. The Zombie can infect other non-mutant infantry into Zombies to increase their numbers.

Coming up next is a familiar unit from another CNC Universe, The Toxin Tractor

Like in Generals the Toxin Tractor shoots a lethal chemical spray that can melt infantry and can be ordered to deploy to contaminate the area.

Introducing the Last Syndicate Unit for this update is the Ban-err... Schism.

The Schism is the Gunship of the Cabal Order. Replacing the Floating Disk for them. The Schism can quickly dart around in the sky and can fire its plasma bomb against ground targets or fire Twin-Lasers against Air Units.

Coming up next are the new allied units and structures.

First up is an old familiar face from Red Alert 1, The Longbow

The Longbow is armed with Missile Pods and a Chaingun. The Missile Pods used mainly against Vehicles & Structures and the Chaingun against Infantry.

The Talon Ops brings back the Camo Pillbox.

The Camo Pillbox is normally hidden from sight and can only be revealed with detector units. The Pillbox comes armed instead of a Machine Gun with a powerful Rifle that can take out infantry more quickly and can even damage vehicles better.

Last comes the Soviet Toys

Firstly are the new Mine Structures. From left to right, the Sea Mine, Blast Mine & Shock Mine

To conclude the update is the Soviet's answer to a Tier 3 Anti-Air Unit, The Refactored Saber Tank

The Saber Tank fires a high-powered tesla coil against air units and utilizes a low-volt stun gun that can also disable unit movement when engaging other ground units.

Stay tuned for July as Hecthor Doomhammer in Twitch will be streaming the Game.

Until then. Excelsior!

Boom. There've been so many great Red Alert 2 mission designers throughout the years, perhaps some of them will respond to our recruitment notice. Ąs you might or might not be aware, Mental Omega is the only Red Alert 2 mod to come with 3 completely new campaigns including one for Yuri's side. Last December we have released a Public Beta with Act One of the campaign, which included 36 new missions and 18 coop maps. We're now working on Act Two but we'd like to accelerate its development, which is why we've made this recruitment notice.

Here's a video preview of the first Allied mission "Red Dawn Rising" to serve as an example of what kind of missions we've released in Mental Omega so far.

If you are interested in joining us or at least contributing with a mission or two, PM me or write an e-mail to mental.omega.apyr@gmail.com.

Hey everyone!C&C: Online has been launched on June 30th and a lot of people has already joined it. Unfortunately, it's not being easy for everyone, as we see a lot of posts at the C&C: Online Support forums.  In order to make things a little bit easier, Sybert, the same guy who worked on countless Community BattleCast Primetime episodes, has created a video tutorial that explains the whole process. Check it out:

And that's all the basic steps.

The only thing he doesn't cover is the common issues and solutions thread, which should help those who are having in game problems.

Enjoy it!

World Domination: July Update 2014

Good day Commanders and Comrades! Announcement for World Domination for July 2014 Update!

Introducing Nexus Carrier, a mammoth vessel that carries up to 3 Nexus Fighter.

Destroyer that comes with Anti-Submarine Helicopter. Destroyer is very well against enemy naval force and is more resistant to incoming torpedo attacks.

AEGIS Cruiser is one of the best anti-aircraft vessel out there. Armed with lethal AA turrets designed to take enemy aircraft with ease.

Riptide LCAC --- Hover Transporter that carries Allied units across the water whereas they can't access it via ground. Riptide LCAC is very fragile and must be protect with unit inside or all the units inside are lost if Riptide LCAC gets destroyed.

And Lastly, Hero dog named Rocket. This hero unit who works with a Promeniemt German Commando named Leon Strauss during the World War 3 from 2027-2037. Rocket is exceptional dog, unlike other common dog that you will see on the battlefield. Rocket have higher speed, comes with designator laser on his left side of face to call in airstrike for hard-to-kill targets, bullet-proof armor that makes him more resistant to death and lastly, he is implanted with resortative nantite that replinishes any wounds he recieves during battlefield that keeps him performing at highest peak.

Also, shifting from Enhancement System to Research System. I've thought about this for a while. The Enhancement System that I initially thought was to limit the players' choices to 4 and only can be placed on Conyard. But issues arises, so I switched to Research System.

What is Research System?

Research System has an Atom-Shaped Symbol on top-left corner of the cameo, which provides permanently upgrade to your force. There is unlimited amount of upgrades that players can have at a time, you can choose to research all, some, or none. However, keep it in your mind, those players who research technologies will have edge over their opponents who don't research.

Example of Research Array System
--- Look at the sidebar ---

A typical Research Technology will cost around $1000 to $3000 depending on how strong these will give buff. You can say that  Research that cost $1000 will give a buff to weak units or T1 units while a Research that cost $3000 will buff strong units / T3 Units or it gives strong upgrade. Additionally, Researching technology will always take x3 of the normal time it takes to complete.

As a good commander, acquiring research will give you edge over your opponents which plays critical role in turning the tide of battle in your favor.

Lastly, I'm seeking for SHP Artists who can create Structures, Infantry for Allied / Soviet / Civilians/Animation exclusively for World Domination Mod.

Want to help World Domination become the best and fun mod to play? Give this mod Feedback, Suggestions, Ideas!

Want to join World Domination Team? Apply here! Freelancers are also welcomed!

That's all for the news, Commanders and Comrades! *Salutes*

Ares 0.7 is available

$

Hello guys,
today is Ares 0.7 release day! Ares 0.7 fixes a few memory issues that were affecting all operating systems, but that had a habit of crashing on Windows 8. They all have been fixed, so this Ares version is more stable than ever. Of course, there are also some new features, like the customizable score screen graphics and themes, and several old ones like the Drop Pod and Hunter Seeker super weapons. Another bunch of features is related to the Cyborg Reaper's Splits missile logic, which has been implemented in Ares, and which needed Ranged and ProjectileRange to be implemented as well. It's all there, and now it is possible to recreate the Cyborg Reaper's missiles in YR (not the net-thrower weapon, though).

There are lots of more small features, like better support to create landmines, prevent units from scattering when repaired by a warhead, treat civilian units as enemies, and custom airstrike voices. You'll find them in the documentation, which has a new What's New page where you can easily see what features were added recently. Even if it does not show bugfixes for the original game, there were some of them, too. The inefficient aircraft smoke lookup has been replaced by a new system with customizable smoke animations and probabilities. And of course, lots of internal Ares code was updated. The Migration Guide in the manual lists only one item, and this time you need to take no steps to upgrade.

Regarding the documentation: It is in a transitional state. The table of contents got longer and longer and items on the same topic were spread over the entire length. This will hopefully be sorted out soon. As of now, the search feature will no longer display formatting texts, but almost only the pure text you see on a page. This should make it easier to find the right page.

That's it for today. Happy Modding!

Command & Conquer Video Packs Released

$

The main problem with the full game download pack of the C&C95 v1.06 patch has always been the lack of videos. Well, two years after the last patch release, this issue is finally addressed.

The downloads section of the ModDB page of Project 1.06 now contains video packs for English, French and German. On top of that, the addons section has video addon packs which can be added to the game on top of the main videos pack, which allows the game to switch videos as you switch to a different language.

One of these video addon packs, notably, is the Spanish one, made to accompany the Spanish language pack. It contains subtitled versions of the English videos, created by wolfstain:

Beacon images for RA spy planes, paratroopers and parabombs.

Head to OpenRA's official website to download the latest playtest. The full list of changes compared with the June release is available at their wiki.

By the way, if you paid attention to the list of features above, you might have noticed the diamond shape 'isometric' support, that should be used for their upcoming Tiberian Sun Mod. Here's a picture of their progress so far:

GameSpy online service for C&C has been shut down.

As many players from Generals, Zero Hour, Tiberium Wars, Kane's Wrath and Red Alert 3 reported today, the official online gaming service for these games is no longer functional.

But don't worry: you can still play these games online. It's time to move to C&C: Online. The online replacement for GameSpy that is officially supported by PPM.

And it's not hard to do that. All you need to do is to follow the video guide below from Sybert:

You can find out more information about it at C&C: Online Official site, as well as download the launcher there.

Fo those who use GenTool, just be a bit more patient, since its compatibility with C&C: Online is being worked on and it should be sorted soon.
